A Month with Viva IT | Jack

It’s now been a month since I started working for Viva IT as part of my IT apprenticeship with 3AAA Leicester. I’ve learnt a lot, and this is a little insight in to what I’ve been doing since I started.

I joined Viva IT in late October as an apprentice software developer, as a part of my IT apprenticeship with 3AAA Leicester. Having had some past-experience with software development in my free time, I was looking forward to being able to learn more, expand my knowledge and apply myself in a commercial environment. This being my first full-time job, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from it.

I was excited, but nervous, for my first day in the office. Viva IT has a spacious, open plan office in Dock Leicester - the office even has a good view of the National Space Centre, located just next door. The team were very welcoming, after being shown my desk (complete with a shiny 27-inch iMac), I was given a tour of the building. Dock is Leicester’s new building for technology businesses. It provides office space for numerous companies in the technology industry, and is a nice place to work in.

Since starting at Viva IT, I’ve been learning about the different tools and processes used in commercial software development. I’ve learned a lot from the team in a short time, and I’m looking forward to learning more. As well as learning, I’ve been able to apply myself by getting involved with some of the projects that we have ongoing at the moment.

I’m enjoying working at Viva IT. The team are a friendly bunch who all make work that little bit more fun. I’m looking forward to the forthcoming months - I’m excited to learn much more and be involved with the development of new software.
