We were lucky enough this year to be able to sponsor the Launch48 event in Leicester this year. It was a perfect opportunity to be with pre-startup businesses to provide mentoring and assist in their development.
One of our major goals has been to build a sustainable technology community in and around Leicestershire. We are committed to this, and within the last 6 months we have been involved with events such as free workshops, guest lectures, contributing to community events, open-sourcing some of our software projects, hackathons, networking, and trying our very best to create sustainable high-tech jobs in the heart of Leicestershire.
This year’s Launch48 in Leicester was held at Dock, where we’re located, on Friday the 21st until Sunday the 23rd of November. If you don’t already know what Launch48 is, the goal of the event is to pitch, build and launch a startup within just 48 hours.
One of our developers, Kiel, attended the event as a mentor and a judge:
"Over the course of the weekend I was on hand to offer personal opinion or commercial advice and it was very humbling to be side by side with other mentors that have been involved in other high-growth businesses.
"I met some amazing people who I’m sure will go to achieve some pretty amazing things and wish them all the best. Although at the end of the event we could pick only a single winner and as I was on the panel of judges it was a difficult decision. It was clear that it was a neck-and-neck fight to be crowned winner but ultimately won by Nicked-or-not with their freemium model to assess whether a car had been stolen before it is bought."
